WCU Annual Tuck Cleanup — Scotts Creek
WCU Annual Tuck Cleanup — Scotts Creek – April 20, 2013
For years, WATR has conducted cleanups on tributaries to the Tuckasegee River, as part of the Annual WCU Tuck River Cleanup. We let the college kids work out of rafts on the main river, while we fight prickly brush and steep banks to clean the trash otherwise destine for the river.
This year we met at Monteith Farmstead Park, and one group confronted a piece of trash at the park that has bothered us from months. They went out in the creek to wrestle, cut, dismantle, and remove a nasty old carpet. (Pic 1. See Ken Brown and Sae Smyrl attack the offending rug.)
Meanwhile, other groups headed up the creek, attacking litter at various access points… with grand success, including a nice new soccer ball, good enough to be a door prize at an upcoming WATR event. In all, 25 volunteers helped and that’s great.
And “Hooray!” for the Sylva Rotary Club. They cleaned up the section downstream of Monteith Park ending at the confluence!
